Roxbourne Rough Nature Reserve

This is well-used site with a variety of grassland, wetland, hedgerow and woodland habitats. Typical plants include tufted hair-grass (Deschampsia cespitosa), reed sweet-grass Phalaris arundinacea), hard rush (Juncus inflexus), greater bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus pedunculatus), sneezewort (Achillea ptarmica) and grass vetchling (Lathyrus nissolia). The site is also important for its strong population of red bartsia (Odontites verna).
The site is likely to be important for invertebrates. The white-letter hairstreak butterfly and the local dead-wood nesting wasp Psen dahlbomi have been recorded here.
The site is accessible to the public.
